Every day is upper body day

At one time, I ran a blog called Fitterverse: A universe of fitness. This post originally appeared there. Thanks to the Wayback Machine, I’ve been able to recapture the text. I’ve published them here on their original publication dates.

We’ve all seen that guy. Huge from the waist up, tiny legs. Every gym has one. The gym where I workout is no exception.

I was going to take that guy’s picture for this blog post, make a few snarky remarks, and move on. Make no mistake, this guy is an easy target. He’s built like Dwayne Johnson up top, but his legs are about the size of my girlfriend’s arms. I never could figure out how you could get those proportions and not figure that something didn’t look right.

But something happened today that changed my mind. For the first time, I saw this guy work legs. Something, or someone, clued him in.

And I also realized that I don’t want Fitterverse to be that kind of blog. I’m trying to learn something, and inspire change in myself and in others. I’m not going to do that by denigrating other people and being judgmental. We all started somewhere, and we can all learn something every day.

Learn something today. I did.
