Nadia Murdock – train your mind, change your body

At one time, I ran a blog called Fitterverse: A universe of fitness. One of my favorite features of that blog was an interview series I did with a variety of people at different stages in their fitness journey. Thanks to the Wayback Machine, I’ve been able to recapture the text of those interviews. I’ve published them here on their original publication dates.

20140927-_MG_8395Nadia Murdock, once over 30 pounds overweight and weighed down with feelings and fears, has gone on to become a fitness coach, certified fitness instructor, and author of You Can Have It All. Nadia and Fitterverse found each other on Twitter.

FV: What made you start your fitness program?

NM: I wanted to share with others as well as help others achieve their fitness goals after traveling my own fitness journey.
What are your goals? I have so many but right now I want to focus on helping others through my company Nadia Murdock Fit. One of the hardest things to do for some people is to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. This can become especially more difficult if you have lived a certain way all your life. I want to educate and show my clients and readers that you can be fit and not deprive yourself of the things you love. It’s all about smart choices and moderation.

FV: Are you measuring progress? How?

NM: I don’t have a specific measuring tool when it comes to my success however the feed back I receive from clients is one of the most rewarding ways to see how I am impacting the lives of others. I also enjoy the engagement on my social media platforms; you never realize how much of a difference you might be making in someone’s life.

FV: How long have you been working out? On your current program?

NM: I have been working out on a regular basis (5-6 days a week) for about 10 years now. Before I began my fitness journey I wasn’t working out at all but step-by-step I increased my workouts and changed my diet. I loved working out so much I turned my passion in to a career so that I could help others succeed in their own weight loss.

FV: What are you currently doing for workouts?

NM: I love kickboxing and spin classes. I also create my own elliptical workouts and do at home workouts when I am in a time crunch (Jillian Michaels, Tae-Bo, This Firm, Kettlebell DVD’s).

FV: Do you use any tools? Apps? Which ones?

NM: No but my clients like Lose It and Fitness Pal. I like to keep a journal and write down my fitness goals as they come to me.

FV: What do you find difficult?

NM: Saying No, you don’t always have to say yes to everything in life. It’s important to know your limits so that you can excel at the things you have already committed to.

FV: What do you enjoy most?

NM: Spending time with friends and family! Obviously working out as well! No matter what kind of mood I am in a good workout always leaves me in an even better spirit. I enjoy pushing myself and trying new workouts, I did a lot of that in 2013 and hope to do even more this year.

FV: Do you have any advice for people who want to start a program like yours?

NM: My motto at Nadia Murdock Fit is “Train your mind, change your body”. Most times when people give up on a fitness program it is because they haven’t mentally committed to the goals they wish to achieve. I would say once you have trained your mind your half way to achieving success!

As Nadia mentioned, she can be found in a number of online and social media outlets:
