I’m struggling today with what to write. I was going to fall back on an old blogger’s trick and just re-release material that I had written in the past around this time of year. Then I read a couple things that I’d written about scarcity and being a Scrooge, and realized that at this point in the year, it’s almost a tradition that I write about how little I really enjoy Christmas due to my profession. But this year is different.

Now it may have had something to do with spending four quiet, glorious days in the mountains for Thanksgiving as the start of my holiday season. There’s something more, though.
Because of the way Thanksgiving and Christmas fall this year, the entire time frame is compressed. What has it done?
It’s brought scarcity back into the holiday.
